Peace and stillness at Hedgehope Hut

I headed back to Huts in the Hills to stay in the beautiful Hedgehope Hut, and it was every bit as magical as I remembered. The first time I stayed here was at The Hütte a few months ago, and I completely fell in love with the stillness, the views, and that feeling that time just slows right down in this part of Northumberland. Hedgehope had all of that and even more.

There’s something so grounding about being here, the peace, the space, the quiet rhythm of the landscape. It’s the kind of place that lets you breathe a little deeper. Mornings start slow, with a hot cuppa on the steps while the hills wake up in soft light. The air feels fresh and clear, and all you can hear are the birds and the wind moving through the grass.

Inside, Hedgehope is cosy and beautifully designed, warm wood, soft textures, and all those thoughtful little details that make it feel special. Evenings were spent by the fire, with the light fading outside and that perfect calm settling in. The outdoor bath was a highlight, soaking in the warm water while looking out at the hills, watching steam drift up into the cool air as the stars started to appear. Pure bliss.

What I love most about this place is how it makes you slow down. There’s no rush, no pressure, just the simple joy of being somewhere quiet and peaceful. It’s the kind of stay that leaves you feeling lighter, clearer, and so grateful for places that remind you how good it feels to just be still for a while.

Sunrises, stillness and a hot drink in the middle of nowhere, Hedgehope Hut really is something special.
